Editing guide
How to write articles. Reading is covered in the reader guide.
Creating an article
- Start from "New article" on the home page or a field page.
- The field is chosen when you create the article and cannot be changed later.
- Choosing a parent under "Belongs to" nests the article. Only articles in the same field and language can be parents.
Adding citations
- An article with no citation cannot be saved.
- Select the part of the body you want to support and an input box appears there. Saving inserts [1] after the selected text.
- The list below lets you change numbers and text later. Changing a number updates the body, and deleting removes it from the body.
Adding images
- Use "Choose image" for PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP up to 3MB.
- The body receives [[img:id|description]]. The text after "|" is the caption and the screen-reader text, so keep it short.
- Only upload images you made yourself or have confirmed you may use.
Edit summary
- Write one line about what you changed. It stays in the article log.
Going back to an earlier version
- "Edit history" on an article page lets you read the article as it was at any earlier point.
- If someone vandalises the page, or you make a mistake, press "Restore this version". Anyone logged in can do this.
- The restore itself is recorded in the history, so no edit is ever lost.
Deleting and restoring
- Use "Delete" on the article page. Your password is required.
- Deleted articles are kept and an administrator can restore them.
Please avoid
- Copying text from other sites or books word for word.
- Mixing your own opinion into the facts.
- Leaving the page without saving. You will be asked to confirm.
